SIBU, March 4: The State General Operations Force (GOF) seized RM49 million in contraband in 2019, the largest total of such among GOF enforcers in the country.

Their success had even caught the attention of Inspector General of Police, Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Bador, revealed Sarawak GOF commander SAC Datuk Khaw Kok Chin at the 10th Batallion monthly parade here today.

“In 2019, Sarawak GOF had achieved many successes especially in the (curbing of) smuggling of illicit cigarettes and liquor that had escaped custom duties and other offences which violate existing laws,” he added.

Khaw also revealed the IGP had said he would present certificates to members of the police force to recognise their accomplishments, including to those who had refused to accept bribes, to encourage the uniformed men and women to discharge their duties with integrity and dedication.

He disclosed that on March 12, the IGP would present certificates of appreciation to 60 officers and rank-and-file police personnel at 12th Batallion GOF, Miri for performance excellence. Some 290 people would also be receiving Pingat Jasa Negara from the IGP on the same day.

Khaw noted that state GOF personnel had also received certificates of recognition from the Home Ministry, State Commissioner of Police, Malaysian Anti-corruption Commission (MACC) and Sarawak Forestry Department for their excellent work.

He also disclosed that a total of 109 GOF personnel had been promoted to the various posts. Of these, the 10th Batallion in Sibu notched the highest with 48 followed by 111th Batallion Batu Kawa (30), 12th Batallion Miri (18) and Sarawak GOF (13). — DayakDaily
