Sarawak Chef De Mission Dato Gerald Rentap Jabu emphasised that competing on familiar turf gives Sarawakian athletes an inherent edge even before the competition begins.

“They must remember that they are playing on their own turf and that is a big advantage,” said Gerald during a meeting with tennis players representing Sarawak for the upcoming Sukma in August, held at the Sarawak Lawn Tennis Association (SLTA) center today.

Gerald, who also serves as the Deputy Minister of Youth, Sports, and Entrepreneur Development, expressed hope that the tennis event would be a significant contributor to Sarawak’s gold medal tally.

He stated that winning in Sukma would help Sarawak achieve its target of becoming the overall champion.

“You all have to play as a team and motivate each other,” he added.

Meanwhile, SLTA President Dato Patrick Liew announced that 10 Sarawak tennis players will undergo training in Korea at the end of July.

This training is part of their preparation to strengthen the team and improve performance ahead of Sukma 2024. — DayakDaily
