KUCHING, April 25: The Sarawak Public Works Department (JKR) continues to chart new milestones as several of its officers have been formally recognised as certified Geospatial (Gs) professionals by the Institution of Geospatial and Remote Sensing Malaysia (IGRSM), in recognition of their expertise and contributions in the fields of geospatial science and remote sensing.
In a media release yesterday (April 24), Sarawak JKR stated that 13 of its officers have received the prestigious recognition to date, including recent recipients and those awarded in previous years.
The recognition, awarded by the national body overseeing geospatial and remote sensing standards, reflects JKR Sarawak’s ongoing commitment to strengthening its technical capacity and nurturing a highly skilled workforce.
This is in line with the rapid evolution of technology and the growing demands of Malaysia’s infrastructure sector.
Sarawak JKR director Ir Dr Cassidy Morris, expressed gratitude to IGRSM for honouring the department’s officers.
“This award is a great honour for our officers and a catalyst for JKR Sarawak’s mission to develop a professional, high-performing team. We deeply appreciate IGRSM’s role in supporting the growth of geospatial capabilities nationwide,” he said.
He added that such recognition not only highlights individual achievements but also reinforces JKR Sarawak’s leadership in data-driven infrastructure development.
This latest accomplishment further solidifies the department’s role in driving the transformation of Sarawak’s infrastructure landscape, aligned with the state’s ambition to become a developed, high-income region by 2030.
It also supports JKR’s mission to build smart, sustainable and competitive infrastructure through the application of advanced data, technology and innovation. — DayakDaily
