LUBOK ANTU, Aug 29: The Sarawak government has allocated RM6 million for the construction of a road linking Nanga Kapu, underscoring its commitment to enhancing connectivity and improving accessibility for rural communities in the Batang Ai constituency.
Deputy Minister for International Trade, Industry and Investment and Batang Ai assemblyman Datuk Dr Malcolm Mussen Lamoh said the project would help ensure that communities in remote areas benefit from improved infrastructure and greater access to essential services and economic opportunities.
“The RM6 million allocation for the road to Nanga Kapu reflects the Sarawak Government’s continued commitment to strengthening connectivity and improving access to rural areas,” he said when officiating the Batang Ai Community Engagement Programme yesterday (Aug 28), as reported by Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas).
Malcolm also stressed that effective leadership was vital in driving continuous development and progress within a community.
“Ccommunity leaders must demonstrate commitment, remain attentive to the concerns of residents, and actively champion local needs and issues to the government,” he added.
Highlighting the significance of the Rural Transformation Project (RTP), he noted that the initiative plays a key role in delivering infrastructure and development projects that directly benefit local communities.
“The implementation of RTP projects is crucial in addressing grassroots development needs, particularly in enhancing public facilities and improving the overall wellbeing of rural communities,” he said.
During the event, Malcolm also approved RM10,000 in Minor Rural Project (MRP) funding for the Nanga Kapu Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK), as well as RM8,000 for the Nanga Kapu Women’s Bureau. — DayakDaily
