LUBOK ANTU, Aug 28: A RM6 million road project to Nanga Kapu is set to strengthen connectivity for rural communities in Batang Ai, with the Sarawak government moving to improve access to the area.
According to a report by the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas), Deputy Minister of International Trade, Industry, and Investment Sarawak Datuk Dr Malcolm Mussen Lamoh said the project reflected the State government’s commitment to ensuring rural communities were not left behind in infrastructure development.
“The allocation for the construction of the road to Nanga Kapu reflects the Sarawak government’s commitment to strengthening connectivity and improving access to rural areas,” he said when officiating the Batang Ai Community Programme here today.
He said better road connectivity was important to support rural residents’ daily needs and give them improved access to essential facilities and services.
Meanwhile, Malcolm, who is also Batang Ai assemblyman, stressed that strong grassroots leadership was also crucial to driving development in rural areas.
He said community leaders needed to be committed, listen to the people’s concerns and bring their needs to the government’s attention.
He also highlighted the importance of the Rural Transformation Project (RTP) in delivering facilities and development projects that directly benefit local communities.
According to him, such projects were an important approach to addressing grassroots development needs, particularly in improving facilities and the well-being of rural communities.
At the same event, Malcolm approved Rural Minor Project (MRP) allocations of RM10,000 for the Nanga Kapu Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) and RM8,000 for the Nanga Kapu Women’s Bureau. — DayakDaily
