BAU, Aug 6: The RM74 million Phase One dual carriageway upgrade project linking the Bau–Lundu junction and Bau town should be completed without further delay to ensure road users can fully benefit from the improved infrastructure as soon as possible.
Deputy Minister for Transport (Rivers and Marine) Datuk Henry Harry Jinep called on the contractor to expedite the remaining works, noting that the project had been scheduled for completion in June this year.
He said any prolonged delay was unacceptable as it would not only disrupt infrastructure development plans but also deny residents and motorists timely access to a safer and more efficient road network.
“I do not want to see this project continue to be delayed. The contractor must ensure that all outstanding works are carried out and completed as quickly as possible,” he said during a site inspection at the project site today, as reported by Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas).
The project, which commenced in February 2024, involves upgrading the existing single-carriageway road into a 3.65-kilometre dual carriageway.
Harry, who is also the Tasik Biru assemblyman, stressed that unreasonable justifications for the delay would not be accepted if they resulted from the contractor’s failure to meet its obligations and adhere to the agreed project schedule.
He warned that continued delays could affect project delivery, drive up costs, and further prolong the wait for residents and road users who are expecting improved transport connectivity.
As such, he urged all parties involved to prioritise the completion of the remaining works and ensure the project is delivered within the shortest possible timeframe, enabling the upgraded road to be opened to the public and bring tangible benefits to the local community.
