Upon arrival, it was noted that the fire involved a single-storey permanent-structure post office building measuring approximately 40 x 40 feet.

An inspection conducted found that approximately 70 per cent of the building had been damaged by the fire.

Firefighters conducted a size-up before launching firefighting operations using a 400-foot hose line with two water jets.

Firefighters drew water from an open water source at a nearby river to extinguish the blaze.

The fire was brought under control at 9.58am and completely extinguished before firefighters carried out overhaul operations to ensure no remaining embers or sources of fire could cause a re-ignition. Firefighters then installed safety barriers around the incident area.

The operation ended at 12.30pm after firefighters confirmed that there were no remaining sources of fire and the area was safe.

The cause of the fire and estimated losses remain under investigation. — DayakDaily
