KUCHING, April 8: All 12 Kejiranan Mesra (KJM) or Friendly Neighbourhoods within the Samariang constituency will be given an additional grant to organise more activities for the local communities.

Samariang assemblywoman Datuk Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali said the grant is a form of her support towards the KJM, which would also complement the allocation provided by the Kuching North City Commission (DBKU).

“I am giving a grant to KJM. It will be channelled soon, as it is still in the pipeline.

“I feel that KJMs must assist me in serving the community.

“If you go on the ground through KJM as a platform and with the support of DBKU and me, then there is a lot we can do for the community and society,” she said when officiating a bubur pedas distribution programme held at Masjid Darul Nur Hasanah in Taman Sourabaya Indah here today.

Sharifah Hasidah, who is the Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Law, MA63 and State-Federal Relations), further pointed out that the grant is meant to assist KJM in organising community-based programmes while the physical development would be left for the Sarawak government to handle.

“For the Sarawak government, physical development is no problem (sic). We will build a lot of facilities like mosques, surau, churches, and roads. Although sometimes the development project is slow, we would still implement it.

“I believe the Sarawak government, under the leadership of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and agencies like DBKU, would implement many physical projects, so what is left for us to do is to develop our communities in Samariang constituency,” she added.

There are 12 KJM in the Samariang constituency, namely Kampung Lintang, Kampung Tunku, Taman Sourabaya Indah, Kampung Malaysia Jaya, Kampung Sungai Bedil Besar, Kampung Sungai Midin, Kampung Samariang Batu, Kampung Samariang Pinggir dan Samariang Lama, Kampung Samariang Baru Fasa 3, Kampung Samariang Jaya Fasa 2, Kampung Siol Kandis and Taman Sukma.

The bubur pedas distribution programme was co-organised by DBKU and KJM in collaboration with Sarawak State Mosque Welfare Trust Board (LAKMNS), Tabung Baitulmal Sarawak (TBS), Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (Jakim), Malaysia Building Society Berhad (MBSB), National Consumer Action Council (MTPN), Nestle Manufacturing (M) Sdn Bhd (Maggi), Adabi Consumer Industries Sdn Bhd (Adabi) and Samariang Constituency Service Centre.

Amongst those present were DBKU mayor Datu Junaidi Reduan, Penghulu Awang Sepian Awang Juini (Petra Jaya) and DBKU deputy director of the Community Service Department, Rudzaimeir Malek. — DayakDaily
