KUCHING, 29 June: The ruling coalition Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) will continue prioritising development delivery and public services, even as the proposed addition of 17 new Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUS) seats appears unlikely to be tabled in Parliament before the 13th State Election.

Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Law, MA63 and State-Federal Relations) Datuk Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali said the focus remains firmly on governance and ongoing development programmes, regardless of the electoral boundary review outcome.

She noted that Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Amar Fadillah Yusof had clarified that the redelineation exercise and proposed additional seats would not be presented in the upcoming Parliamentary sitting.

“If it does not happen, we will continue focusing on existing seats. What matters for us in Sarawak is readiness and ensuring all development initiatives and programmes continue as planned,” she was quoted by TVS as saying after officiating the Smart Street Lighting Project in Kampung Malaysia Jaya here last night (June 28).

Sharifah Hasidah added that even without the proposed electoral changes, the State machinery remains prepared for the next State election, with emphasis on service delivery at the ground level.

The Sarawak State Legislative Assembly term is due to expire in February 2027, but the timing of its dissolution remains at the discretion of the Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg. — DayakDaily
