SIBU, July 5: Former Parti Bansa Dayak Sarawak (PBDS) vice president Sawing Kedit has announced he is leaving the party with immediate effect, two days after former PBDS deputy president of Sai Melaka quit the party.
Sawing who was also the PBDS Baram chairman said that with his resignation from the party, the Baram branch is also dissolved.
“With my resignation from the party, I will not reply and answer the showcause letter within 30 days sent by Acting President PBDS Major (B) Moses Ripai dated June 15, 2023,” he said today.
When asked why he was leaving the party when he used to speak loudly to fight for PBDS and the Dayak people, Sawing replied he had lost faith in the PBDS leadership as it had lost its way and has not been listening to members’ remarks and complaints.
“They are not practising the principle of consultation or discussion in making decisions about the party’s direction and affairs.
“This was proven when the Supreme Council fired me and several Supreme Council Members without giving a reasonable reason,” he stressed.
Sawing claimed that the dismissal process was not carried out through proper governance procedures because there was no showcause letter and the meeting was held as if the party was owned by certain individuals.
In the 12th Sarawak Election in 2021, Sawing contested under a PBDSB ticket for the DUN N.76 Marudi seat.
He added that his efforts and sacrifices using his own funds and expenses during the election campaign were not appreciated by the party.
Sawing who is a former counseling teacher and school head disclosed some political parties have invited him to join them.
“I will choose a political party that fights for the rights and aspirations of all people regardless of political background, race and religion.
I will continue to speak out to fight for the Dayak people who are still lagging behind in terms of social, educational, economic and political development,” he added.
Sawing expressed his utmost appreciation and gratitude to all PBDS leaders and grassroots members for their cooperation and for helping him carry out party duties.
“I do not hold any grudge or ill will against any individual in the party,” he said. — DayakDaily
