KUCHING, May 29: Following an increase of 37 sen per litre, the price for RON97 is now RM4.70 per litre this week (May 26 to June 1).

A month ago for the week of April 28 to May 4, the price per litre for RON97 was RM3.94.

The price has, since then, spiked by 76 sen per litre. In the first week of January this year, RON97 cost only RM3 per litre, RM1.70 cheaper than today.

Prices for RON 95 petrol and diesel, on the other hand, continue to remain unchanged at RM2.05 and RM2.15 per litre, respectively.

Taking advantage of the weekend, many Sarawakians have already begun the trip home to their respective longhouses and villages in preparation for Gawai Dayak which falls on June 1.

After two years of lockdowns and isolation to curb the spread of Covid-19, it is widely anticipated that there will be a surge of returnees from urban centres as well as from outside Sarawak following the recent easing of travel restrictions. — DayakDaily
