SERIAN, July 17: Four villages in the Tarat constituency—Kampung Sungai Riset, Kampung Skuduk, Kampung Plaman Payang, and Kampung Chupak—will enjoy improved road connectivity with the construction of an alternative access road.

The 3.4km alternative road, implemented by the Greater Kuching Coordinated Development Agency (GKCDA) at a cost of RM8 million, is expected to be completed within a year.

According to Minister for Education, Innovation, and Talent Development and Tarat assemblyman, Dato Sri Roland Sagah Wee Inn, the road project would bring economic benefits to villagers.

“This road project is a significant improvement over the existing road, and it has become a reality because the people have worked closely with the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government,” Sagah said at the project’s earth-breaking ceremony here today.

Sagah added that the road project would improve connectivity among the villages, fostering greater interaction between residents while also boosting tourism in the area.

“The project links to Kampung Panchor, which is home to a hot spring, providing better road access for recreational activities,” he said.

He also expressed his appreciation to the affected landowners for consenting to the project despite not having received compensation for their land.

Meanwhile, Sagah also called on the Siburan District Council (SDC), the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID), and the Public Works Department (JKR) to coordinate and determine responsibility for the road’s maintenance upon completion of the project.

Also present were Deputy Minister of Food Industry, Commodity, and Regional Development Datuk Martin Ben; Tebedu and Bukit Semuja assemblymen, Dr Simon Sindang Bada and John Ilus, respectively; Serian Resident Mackos Sibong; and GKCDA special administrative officer Datu Ik Pahon Joyik. — DayakDaily
