SIBU, Aug 26: A RM117.1 million housing project under the Teku Village Expansion Scheme (SPK) will provide 243 Rumah Spektra Permata (RSP) units within 36 months, with newly married couples among those prioritised for home ownership.
Deputy Minister of Education and Innovation Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee said the initiative was aimed at giving young families an opportunity to own an affordable home.
“Based on the previous applications, we proposed to the Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, that this phase of the village expansion scheme be allocated to young couples.
“By young couples, we mean those who have recently married, so that they have an opportunity to own a home.
“Given the large number of units with 243 in total, we will scrutinise the applications in detail. However, the scheme is open to the wider community in Sibu,” he told reporters after visiting the SPK Teku project site today, as reported by TVS.
Annuar, who is also Nangka assemblyman, said the 40.2-acre site had subsequently been handed over to the Sarawak Housing Development Corporation (HDC) for development as affordable housing under the SPK.
Meanwhile, HDC Sarawak chairman and Balingian assemblyman Abdul Yakub Arbi said the project would comprise detached houses built on stilts, with each lot measuring about 8.3 points.
He said RM350,000 had been allocated under the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) to commence site clearing and earthworks.
“The initial allocation for this project is RM350,000, and we are ready to begin the work. Additional allocations will be discussed subsequently, and we may further refine the plans.
“While awaiting the allocation, we will make other arrangements to expedite implementation of the project,” he said. — DayakDaily
