BAU, Aug 26: Four villages in Bau are set to enjoy more reliable water supply following the completion of a RM3 million upgrade to the Kampung Apar Singai booster pump station, which can now deliver up to 100,000 gallons of water a day.
According to a report by the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas), the upgraded facility is expected to improve supply to Kampung Tabong, Kampung Apar, Kampung Barieng and Kampung Segong, particularly in areas affected by low water pressure and intermittent supply.
Speaking at the project handover ceremony at the Kampung Apar booster pump station here today, Deputy Minister of Transport Sarawak (Maritime and Riverine) and Tasik Biru assemblyman Datuk Henry Harry Jinep said the upgrade was aimed at addressing water supply problems faced by residents in the four villages.
“The implementation of the project is to comprehensively resolve water supply issues in the affected villages, particularly residential areas that frequently experience low water pressure and supply interruptions,” he said.
The upgrade included replacing the existing pumps with higher-pressure units and constructing dedicated pipelines to improve the capacity of the water supply system serving the affected areas.
Meanwhile, about two kilometres of agricultural and village roads in Kampung Bobak Sajong have been upgraded under a RM1.6 million project to improve access for residents.
The project, carried out by the Bau District Public Works Department (JKR), began on Oct 20, 2025 and was completed on June 19 this year.
Works included widening the roads, relocating utilities, improving drainage and installing road accessories to enhance accessibility and safety for road users.
Both projects were implemented under the Greater Kuching Coordinated Development Agency (GKCDA). — DayakDaily
