KUCHING, July 17: The Marine Police Force (PPM) Region Five Sarawak uncovered a suspected diesel misappropriation operation, with total seizures estimated at RM11.75 million, following a raid at a jetty along Batang Rajang in Sibu on Wednesday (July 15).
According to Sarawak Region Five PPM Commander ACP Ab Rahman Mat Hasan, the operation, carried out based on public information, was conducted at about 12.20am whereby two vessels were found transferring approximately 9,662 litres of diesel without valid documents or permits.
“One local man was detained to assist investigations under the Supply Control Act 1961, while two foreign nationals were arrested under the Immigration Act 1959/63,” he said in a statement today.
He also added that cash amounting to RM15,457, believed to have been used for the illegal purchase of diesel, was seized.
In the same operation, 13 crew members from Myanmar and Indonesia were also detained after failing to produce valid identification documents.
“All suspects, together with the seized items, have been handed over to the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) and the police for further action and investigation,” he said.
He said the case is being investigated under Section 21 of the Supply Control Act 1961 (Act 122) for possessing, storing or transporting controlled goods without a permit, licence or special authorisation from KPDN. — DayakDaily
