SERIAN, Aug 21: The upgrading of Serian Sports Complex is in progress with a cost of RM5 million from the Greater Kuching Coordinated Development (GKCDA) under the Bukit Semuja constituency.
Bukit Semuja assemblyman John Ilus said that the project, which commenced in June this year, is expected to be completed in September 2027.
According to him, the project includes upgrading the field, running track, and toilets.
“The upgrading of Serian Sports Complex is long awaited by the locals, who want to engage in sports and recreational activities, and I hope that the contractor can deliver on time,” he said at the earth-breaking ceremony today.
He added that before upgrading the sports complex, a visit was made to Song Stadium to learn about its construction, stressing that the stadium is among the best in Sarawak’s central zone.
Meanwhile, he said that the Serian Sports Arena is already in the pipeline with a RM10 million allocation under the GKCDA.
John said a parcel of land for the project has been acquired, hoping that the tender process could take place before the end of this year.
“The fund for the project is already available, and the land has been acquired, and we hope the project will be tendered before the end of this year.
“We are now going into the internal matter to identify the various sports facilities, receiving feedback from youths because we want our youths to participate in the various sports,” he said.
John also said his constituency has a total of 64 projects under GKCDA, of which 21 are under planning, eight projects have been rendered, 29 awarded to contractors, and 16 completed.
“All the projects are worth RM152.7 million under GKCDA, with infrastructure projects accounting for the bulk at RM109 million,” he said, adding that the remaining seven projects comprise social initiatives worth RM22 million and economic projects worth RM21 million.
