SARIKEI, May 27: The government remains steadfast in its commitment to strengthening the rural development agenda, with RM120 million allocated for the implementation of various infrastructure projects in the Parit Bugis area of Seberang Sarikei.
Deputy Minister for Urban Planning, Land Administration and Environment Datuk Len Talif Salleh said the projects are expected to significantly improve the quality of life for local residents while also stimulating economic activity in the area.
He said infrastructure development remains a key government priority to ensure rural communities have equitable access to basic amenities and development opportunities.
“The government has always given attention to the needs of rural communities so that they too can enjoy facilities and development opportunities that are on par with other areas,” he said as per reported by Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas).
He highlighted this when met after attending the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Project Implementation Cheque Presentation Ceremony at the Sarawak Integrated Administration Centre (IAC) on Monday (May 25).
Len Talif added that rural areas hold strong potential for growth if supported by a well-organised and efficient road network as well as complementary infrastructure systems.
Of the total allocation, RM45 million has been channelled through the Rajang Delta Development Agency (RADDA) for the construction of new road networks in the affected areas.
He said the new roads would improve inter-village connectivity, ease the movement of residents, and provide faster access to agricultural land and key economic centres.
In addition, RM75 million has been allocated to the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) for bund road projects, which will also enhance drainage and irrigation systems in the area.
He added that the initiative is expected to deliver long-term benefits, including improved safety, smoother daily mobility for residents, and stronger support for agricultural development.
“When basic facilities are improved, residents will have better access, and this will indirectly contribute to raising the community’s standard of living,” he said.
Also present were RADDA special administrative officer Kelana Kipli and representatives from the Sarikei Land and Survey Department. — DayakDaily
