SARIKEI, Aug 9: The Sarawak government is considering carrying out cloud seeding operations if haze conditions in the State continue to worsen, Sarawak Deputy Minister for Urban Planning, Land Administration, and Environment Datuk Len Talif Salleh.
In a TVS news report, however, he said the Sarawak government has yet to set any schedule for cloud seeding operations.
“As of now, there is no schedule for cloud seeding. God willing, we will continue monitoring the situation so that it does not become worse,” he said during a press conference while inspecting the third day of the Sarawakku Sayang Programme for the Sarikei Division here today.
He also noted that winds moving from the east towards the south before turning towards northern Sarawak were also causing the State to be affected by transboundary haze.
Meanwhile, he also reminded the public not to carry out open burning to prevent the haze situation from worsening.
He said as several areas in Sarawak have already recorded Air Pollution Index (API) readings of above 100, open burning could make the situation worse.
“If they continue to do so, we will take legal action against them, whether they are individuals or companies,” he said. — DayakDaily
