Proposal for Siniawan Mooncake and Lantern Festival to be included in tourism calendar to boost visitor numbers

BAU, Sept 17: The annual Siniawan Mooncake and Lantern Festival has been proposed for inclusion in the tourism calendar to draw more visitors to the heritage town.

In a news report by Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas), Serembu assemblyman Miro Simuh emphasised that the festival has consistently attracted a diverse range of visitors from different backgrounds.

“What makes this event even more special is that it’s not only celebrated by the Chinese community but also embraced by other ethnic groups,” he said during the opening ceremony of the Mooncake and Lantern Festival 2024 in Siniawan on Sunday (Sept 15).

Miro highlighted that the festival has once again served as a platform for fostering unity among various communities, showcasing the rich cultural diversity of the Serembu constituency.

The event featured an array of traditional delicacies, with mooncakes in different varieties and flavours taking centre stage.

In addition to local attendees, a group of indigenous visitors from Taiwan, who had toured several areas in Serembu, also joined the celebration.

Bau District Officer Constantine Gerald David, Bau Bidayuh community leader Pemanca Robert Tom Juin, and Taiwan’s Indigenous People chairman Toko Saiyon were present. — DayakDaily
