Premier joins 3,000 for Aidiladha prayer at Masjid Jamek, distributes sacrificial meat to needy

KUCHING, May 27: Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg joined more than 3,000 worshippers in performing the Aidiladha Sunnat prayer at Masjid Jamek Negeri Sarawak today, before later presenting sacrificial meat to the needy and new converts in conjunction with the Aidiladha thanksgiving ceremony organised by the Sarawak Islamic Council (SIC).

According to the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas), the prayer was led by Sarawak Deputy Grand Imam Mohammad Ihsan Haidzir, while the Aidiladha sermon was delivered by Sarawak Mufti Datu Khalidi Ibrahim.

Following the prayers, the Premier took part in the sacrificial programme by declaring his intention for the korban ritual and witnessing the slaughtering of two sacrificial cattle.

A total of eight cattle were contributed for the programme this year, with three donated by SIC and five by the Sarawak Civil Servants Welfare and Sports Council (MAKSAK).

He then carried out the symbolic distribution of sacrificial meat, before presenting portions to 30 recipients comprising asnaf and new converts from around the Kuching Division.

Also present were the Premier’s daughter Dayang Norjihan, Sarawak Legislative Assembly Speaker Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar, Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Project Coordinator for Regional Development Agencies, DBKU and Islamic Affairs) Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi, Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Integrity and Ombudsman) Datuk Dr Juanda Jaya, Deputy State Secretary (Economic Planning and Development) Dato Sri Dr Muhammad Abdullah Zaidel, and SIC chairman Datuk Misnu Taha. — DayakDaily
