KUCHING, March 21: The Implementation Coordination Unit (ICU) in the Prime Minister’s Department is committed to working together with Sarawak to ensure projects will not fall behind schedule or end up becoming “sick”.

Its new director-general Dato Sri Wan Ahmad Dahlan Abdul Aziz conveyed this during a courtesy call on the Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg at Wisma Bapa Malaysia today.

Among the matters discussed during the meeting included strengthening the collaboration between the Federal and Sarawak governments in the implementation of projects below RM50 million.

“The Premier has stated a number of things that the Federal government needs to give attention to, especially in assisting the Sarawak government in implementing projects below RM50 million.

“This is crucial because the success of a completed project within a specific period will provide comfort and benefit to the people,” he said in a news report by Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas).

Wan Ahmad added that another issue raised was concerning the national borders which require closer cooperation so that development would be in line with the new capital of Indonesia, Nusantara.

“The Premier also mentioned the need to work together closely, especially in looking after our country’s borders with the constructions of control posts and the Immigration, Customs, Quarantine and Security (ICQS) Complex,” he explained.

Wan Ahmad, who took the helm from former director-general Datuk Ruji Ubi, reported for duty on Feb 20.

He previously served as the secretary-general of the Ministry of Home Affairs.
