KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 24: The PETRONAS Twin Towers will mark its 27th anniversary alongside Malaysia’s 69th National Day with a three-day celebration featuring culture, science and discovery from Aug 29 to 31.
Held under the theme “Curiosity Unites Us”, the celebration at KLCC will bring together Petrosains, The Discovery Centre and PETRONAS Twin Towers Sky Xperience for a line-up of cultural performances, STEM activities, patriotic experiences and special promotions.
At Petrosains, families can take part in Merdeka-themed activities including patriotic poem recitations, costume competitions, colouring and creative craft sessions, as well as showcases of musical instruments representing Malaysia’s diverse cultural communities.
Visitors can also explore sustainability through the Merdeka Craft Corner, which encourages participants to turn reusable materials such as plastic bottles, cardboard, magazines and bottle caps into creative works.
The programme also features STEM activities including the Colours of Malaysia Animation Station, Jalur Gemilang Paper Heli Challenge and Thinking Spot! Edu-to-Cart, alongside workshops such as Merdeka Pixel Art, LED Flashlight and Merdeka Shrink & Clink.
Traditional Malaysian games including Congkak, Batu Seremban and Dam Haji will also be explored through a STEM lens, highlighting the science, mathematics, strategy and problem-solving embedded in cultural traditions.
Meanwhile, visitors to PETRONAS Twin Towers Sky Xperience can enjoy patriotic face painting and take part in the 3 Towers Photo Competition, where participants can capture the PETRONAS Twin Towers, Menara Merdeka Maybank and KL Tower in a single frame from the Level 86 Sky Deck.
Traditional dance performances featuring Malaysia’s diverse costumes, music and choreography will also be held to celebrate the country’s multicultural heritage and national unity.
Visitors can also enjoy special promotions on Merdeka-themed merchandise at XPLORASI-Petrosains Gift Shop and Sky Shop, including discounts of up to 40 per cent and Buy One Free One offers on selected items.

The PETRONAS Twin Towers Sky Xperience x Petrosains Double Deal will also offer introductory combo packages starting from RM29.70 per person, while Sky Café by Maja will serve a specially curated Merdeka menu.

Petrosains Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Ezarisma Azni Mohamad said this year’s celebration was particularly meaningful as the PETRONAS Twin Towers marked its 27th anniversary on Malaysia’s National Day.
“For nearly three decades, the towers have stood as a symbol of the nation’s aspirations, achievements and enduring spirit,” he said in a statement issued today.
He said the celebration offered Malaysians and international visitors an opportunity to rediscover the stories, science and experiences that made the country unique.
Beyond Kuala Lumpur, families in Kuantan, Johor Bahru and Kota Kinabalu can also participate in the ongoing Merdeka campaign at Petrosains PlaySmart centres, featuring science shows, RoboBud showcases and hands-on workshops.
The three-day celebration aims to make science more accessible while encouraging greater appreciation of Malaysia’s cultural heritage, innovation and national identity.
Visitors are encouraged to capture their favourite moments and share them on social media by tagging @instapetrosains and @petronastwintowers and using the hashtags #CuriosityUnitesUs, #PETRONASTwinTowers27Years.
