LUNDU, Aug 24: Firefighters have extinguished a two-hectare forest fire at Samunsam Forest Reserve in Lundu after a five-day operation.
In a report from the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), firefighters started extinguishing operations using a forest fire pump, one 500-foot hose line, and one nozzle, drawing water from an open water source at a nearby river.
By 3.48pm, firefighters had completed the operation, and it concluded at 4.09pm.
The fire was reported last Thursday (Aug 20), with firefighters receiving a call at 2.40pm and deploying personnel from the Lundu station.
The operations commander said a forest fire covering an estimated two hectares was detected through drone monitoring by the Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC).
The operation was challenging due to the approximately 1.5km access route from the main road to the fire site, as well as the hilly terrain. — DayakDaily
