KUCHING, Sept 11: A man was sentenced to 11 months’ jail by the Magistrate’s Court here today after admitting to punching and kicking his wife over suspicions that she was having an affair with another man.
The 37-year-old from Kampung Tabuan pleaded guilty to a single charge read out to him by an interpreter before Magistrate Nursyaheeqa Nazwa Radzali.
He was charged under Section 323 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 326A of the same Code, for intentionally causing hurt to his 27-year-old wife.
The offence occurred by the roadside in Kampung Tabuan Melayu at around 6.30pm on January 31.
Investigations revealed that on the day of the incident, the victim was riding home on a motorcycle when he blocked her path.
In a fit of anger, he grabbed her by the neck and pushed her, causing her to hit a metal road divider barrier. The attack stemmed from the suspicion that his wife was involved with another man.
The incident was witnessed by the victim’s friend’s child, who was present at the scene.
The victim subsequently went to hospital for treatment before lodging a police report.
A medical report confirmed she sustained soft tissue injuries to the left side of her neck, her left sternum, and her right wrist.
