ASAJAYA, Aug 22: Thirty-five households in Asajaya are set to benefit from RM500,000 in house repair assistance under the first phase of the Sarawak Rural Poor Housing Improvement Programme (PPRMS), which forms part of the Minor Rural Project (MRP) allocation for the constituency this year.

Asajaya assemblyman Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said the assistance was being implemented through the PPRMS with repair works currently being carried out through gotong-royong involving the village development and security committees (JKKKs).

“Last year, 36 recipients in the constituency received PPRMS assistance involving a total allocation of RM500,000.

“The applications for house repairs are provided every year and need to be submitted through the village head,” he said during the MRP 2026 grant presentation ceremony in Asajaya today.

Beyond the housing assistance, Abdul Karim, who is also the Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, said RM2.8 million in MRP grants had been allocated to 166 recipients in the Asajaya constituency this year.

The grants were distributed to JKKKs, mosque and surau committees, churches and temples, Parent-Teacher Associations (PIBG), kindergartens and nurseries, as well as various community associations.

Of the total, RM778,000 was allocated to JKKKs, RM600,000 to mosques and surau, RM105,000 to churches and temples, RM594,000 to PIBGs and kindergartens and nurseries, and RM765,000 to associations.

Abdul Karim said the grants were intended to support community programmes and annual activities involving social, sporting and religious activities.

In addition to the MRP grants, the Asajaya constituency receives RM5 million annually under the Rural Transformation Project (RTP) for rural infrastructure and basic amenities.

The allocation supports projects such as road and bridge construction, concrete drains as well as the upgrading of community halls and sports courts.

He said the projects were implemented by relevant agencies including the Public Works Department (JKR), Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) and Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS). — DayakDaily
