KUCHING, Oct 4: Parti Bansa Dayak Sarawak Baru (PBDSB) is pushing for the term Dayak to be given proper recognition and amended in the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).
PBDSB secretary general Julius Enchana in a media statement today said the issue seemed yet to be settled and it needs serious attention from Dayak lawmakers.
Thus, he questioned whether the term Dayak has been given force of law at this juncture.
“There should be a constitutional amendment to reflect this. We will push for the term ‘Dayak’ to be given proper recognition,” he said.
Julius mentioned that Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) Youth chief Datuk Snowdan Lawan, who is also Balai Ringin assemblyman, was quoted as saying that the issue would be rectified through MA63.
Therefore, as a political party representing Dayak community in Malaysia by bonafide, he said PBDSB would like to know what is the outcome.
He cited that it is important to know as it is related to race recognition as Dayaks played a vital part in the formation of Malaysia, especially the notable Tun Jugah Barieng who was the paramount chief of the Iban people.
In a related matter, Julius said his party is also pushing for upgrading the native court system in Sarawak to be on par with the civil and Syariah courts, setting up a parliamentary ombudsman to investigate and prosecute offences by government leaders and avoiding excessive spending in election campaigns.—DayakDaily
