KUCHING, March 20: Families, relatives, and friends gathered to pay their last respects at the funeral ceremony of the sole survivor of the Kapit boat tragedy, Muhammad Firdaus Ngui Abdullah @ Moses Ngui at the Samariang Muslim Cemetery this afternoon.

Firdaus reportedly passed away at the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) yesterday, March 19.

Sarawak Edition broadcasted the funeral ceremony live on Facebook, during which prayers and sermons were observed.

It was mentioned that his mother and two brothers were among those present. He was laid to rest at around 2pm.

The 47-year-old was one of the five passengers aboard the ill-fated boat that capsized at Batang Baleh on March 7, and was rescued by members of the public.

The accident occurred around 5pm as the boat, carrying five men including two police officers, was en route to Nanga Tulie Camp from Kuching.

The boat, loaded with 35kg of explosives and detonators, encountered swirling waters upon reaching the area, causing it to capsize.

Sadly, four individuals went missing, including 51-year-old Sergeant Jonathan Lambet, 28-year-old Constable (PC) Iskandar Ibrahim, 44-year-old boat operator Jack Balan, and 47-year-old Amerson John Nain.

Subsequently, on March 9, Jackā€™s body was found by members of the public in Batang Rajang near Lanang Bridge, while authorities recovered Jonathanā€™s body in front of the Kapit express boat terminal and Amersonā€™s body was later discovered floating in Batang Lebaan.

The body of the last victim, Iskandar, was found near the Sungai Seputin area a week after the tragedy on March 15.

With Firdaus passing, the tragic accident has claimed five lives. ā€” DayakDaily
