KUCHING, Aug 8: The Iban community in Baleh and surrounding areas now has a new platform to consolidate community interests and address issues affecting residents following the official registration of Persatuan Iban Baleh Kapit (PIBK) on July 10.
In a press statement, the association was officially registered through the eROSE system, marking a step towards strengthening cooperation and representation among the Iban community in Baleh, Kapit and nearby areas.
Sirai Engkut has been appointed as PIBK chairman, with Panyau Semada as deputy chairman and Wilbert Ai Ejau as treasurer, alongside other committee members.
PIBK said its leadership would focus on carrying out the trust placed in them with integrity, dedication and a spirit of togetherness, while working to advance the interests of the community.
Its areas of focus include education, economic development, welfare, social affairs, culture, youth development and overall community well-being.
The association also aims to serve as a bridge between the Iban community and relevant stakeholders, particularly in identifying and addressing issues affecting residents in Baleh.
PIBK is inviting Iban residents in Baleh, regardless of age or background, including women and youths, to join and contribute to the association.
It said broader participation would strengthen unity, expand networks of cooperation and ensure the community’s concerns could be conveyed in a more organised and effective manner.
Youth development is also among the association’s priorities, with PIBK intending to guide and empower young Iban in Baleh to become knowledgeable, skilled, competitive and responsible members of society.
The association said developing a strong younger generation was important to ensuring they could play a meaningful role in the future development of the community and Sarawak.
PIBK described its establishment as more than the formation of a community organisation, saying it was intended to provide a long-term platform for unity, welfare and development among the Iban community in Baleh.
It called on the Iban community to use the establishment of PIBK as an opportunity to strengthen ties, work together and move forward towards a shared goal of improving the community’s progress, well-being and future. — DayakDaily
