KUCHING, Aug 4: Kapit will host this year’s Sarawak-level National Day celebration on Aug 30 and 31, featuring a National Day Eve celebration, a Unity Walk and the National Day assembly as the main highlights of the two-day programme.
Announcing the programme at a press conference today, Sarawak Minister of Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development (MFICORD) Dato Sri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom said the annual celebration aims to foster patriotism, strengthen unity and instil a greater sense of national pride among Malaysians.
Dr Stephen, who is also the minister in charge of the celebration, said this year’s event is expected to be graced by Sarawak Governor Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi, as well as Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
“The National Day Eve celebration will be held at Kapit Town Square on the evening of Aug 30, followed by the Unity Walk and the Sarawak-level National Day assembly the next day.
“Tun Wan Junaidi is scheduled to attend both the Unity Walk and the National Day assembly, while the Premier is expected to attend the assembly at Kapit Civic Centre,” he said.
He will be assisted by five deputy ministers in overseeing the organisation of the celebration, namely Datuk Liwan Lagang, Datuk Hajah Rosey Yunus, Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail, Datuk Majang Renggi and Datuk Jefferson Jamit Unyat.
He also encouraged the public, especially residents of Kapit Division and nearby areas to take part in the celebration, saying their participation would help strengthen the spirit of patriotism, national identity and togetherness.
Those unable to attend in person can watch the celebration live on TVS and the official social media platforms of the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas). — DayakDaily
