KUCHING, March 20: Kuching South City Council (MBKS) mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng has highlighted that a formal groundbreaking ceremony for the MBKS Water Fun Park will take place in the near future.

Wee mentioned that the project site has been handed over to the main contractor, and that clearing work is currently underway in the area.

“We’ve already handed over the site. So we’ll have a formal earth-breaking later. Let’s start by clearing the site. Any updates will be addressed accordingly,” he said during a press conference on the MBKS’ Kuching Car Free Day and Earth Hour campaign held today at the MBKS building here.

The mayor further emphasised the necessity of closing the MBKS swimming pool for renovation purposes.

This was in response to a statement made by Pending assemblywoman Violet Yong on March 18 regarding the closure of the swimming pool, which she shared on her Facebook page/

“Do not start any disputes. This is good because, after so many years, I am very proud to see such a large project taking place in the Padungan area.

“We want to revitalise the Padungan economy. That is our duty. We don’t have time for petty disputes. We want to spend our time serving the people, not pointing fingers,” Wee claimed.

On March 16, the mayor announced during his ShallWeeTalk Facebook live that construction has begun on transforming the MBKS swimming pool into a Water Fun Park and Centre for the Unesco Creative City of Gastronomy, with the project expected to be completed within two years.

Wee officially handed over the project site to the main contractor, Polybuilding Construction Co on March 15.
