As of February 2025, 641 kilometres out of a total of 786 kilometres have been opened to users.

Responding to questions in the Dewan Negara today, he shared that among the completed packages are the Telok Melano to Sematan route (33km), Serian to Pantu Junction (75km), and several other key routes that significantly improve connectivity across Sarawak.

“The last two packages, namely WPC06 (65km), are expected to be completed in the second quarter of 2025, while WPC11 (80km) will be completed in stages by the fourth quarter of 2025, except for the Lambir Section in Miri, which needs to be redesigned and is expected to be completed by October 2027,” he explained.

Nanta also assured that strict action would be taken against any contractor failing to meet the project’s deadlines.

“As the Minister of Works, I also assure that strict action will be taken against any contractor who fails to complete the LPB Sarawak and Sabah projects according to the set schedule.

“Among the measures taken include the issuance of warning notices, monitoring through the Contract Coordination Meeting (CCP), enforcement of Liquidated Ascertained Damages (LAD) penalties, and contract termination for serious delays,” he stated.

He emphasised that the Ministry of Works (KKR) is also working closely with the Implementation Coordination Unit (ICU), the Prime Minister’s Department, and the Construction Industry Development Board Malaysia (CIDB) to ensure the transparency and accountability of this project.

“I and the entire KKR team will continue to closely monitor the implementation of this project, which will undoubtedly have a significant impact on the socio-economic development of Sarawak, enhance relations with Sabah and Brunei, and offer faster and safer travel for the people,” Nanta said. – DayakDaily
