KUCHING, Aug 19: Kuching Festival’s 3-on-3 Basketball Jamboree begins today with over 50 teams competing for cash prizes totaling RM6,880.
Kuching South City Council (MBKS) mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng said the two-day tournament will not only serve as a platform for showcasing the impressive skills of local players, but also underscores the significance of a balanced lifestyle that integrates the joys of sport into busy lives.
“Today, as we witness the games unfold, let us not only revel in the thrill of competition but also celebrate the values that this tournament encapsulates.
“The MBKS 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament embodies the potential of our youth, the active lifestyle we encourage, and the prospects of a vibrant future for our city.
“I am confident that the skills honed and the friendships forged here will contribute to the betterment of our community and serve as a testament to the enduring spirit of unity that characterises Kuching South,” he said when launching the event held at MBKS Parking Space C (next to MBKS Swimming Pool) here today.
He also thanked Kuching Love Book Association for sponsoring the event and Kuching Basketball Association for its partnership in ensuring the event’s success.
Among those present were the event’s organising chairman Albert Tay Seng Pin and Kuching Basketball Association chairman Cr Aaron Tay.
According to a previous report dated Aug 15, Wee has mentioned that there would be three categories namely Men and Women’s 15 and Under (U15), Men and Women’s 20 and Under (U20) and Men and Women’s Open. — DayakDaily
