KUCHING, Dec 15: New Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister (Motac) Dato Sri Tiong King Sing has met with Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg to discuss collaborations to boost Sarawak’s tourism industry.

The Bintulu MP said that was one of the purposes of his courtesy call to Abang Johari, apart from hoping to express his gratitude to the latter for the opportunity, support and recommendation on the appointment as federal minister.

Efforts will later be made to meet up with Sarawak Tourism Minister Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah to discuss in further details on the cooperation between the Federal and State to raise Sarawak as an exotic tourist attraction centre.

Tiong said he has yet to meet up with Abdul Karim as the latter is currently on leave and upon returning, a meeting will be convened in Putrajaya.

Meanwhile, Tiong who is also Dudong assemblyman, continued to uphold his policy of inclusivity when helming the Ministry where no one will be neglected including the disabled.

However, at the moment, he could not offer more details as he has yet to be briefed about the Ministry which is overseeing at least 10 other agencies.

“I have yet to be briefed. It will only start next week. After we have gone through the briefing, then I will go into the details,” Tiong told the media after paying a courtesy call on Abang Johari at Wisma Bapa Malaysia today.

He stressed that the disabled are welcome to participate in the tourism industry, believing that they can contribute one way or another and he will get them to be involved through associations and non-governmental organisations (NGOs).

“We will get associations, from the cultural ones, then we will see how we can work together,” Tiong added. — DayakDaily
