KUCHING, April 25: Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has emphasised that real efforts should be made to strengthen the relationship between Poland’s Wielkopolska region and Sarawak.

According to a post made today on the Premier’s official Facebook page, ‘Sarawakku’, Abang Johari proposed a student exchange programme between universities in the region and Sarawak as a way to improve understanding between people from both areas.

The Premier made the remarks during a dinner speech to thank Marek Wozniak, Marshal of the Wielkopolska Region, for inviting him to participate as a panel speaker at the third Central Europe Hydrogen Forum.

He then invited the Marshall to visit Sarawak, not only to attend conferences, but also to learn more about the State and its green aspirations.

Abang Johari went on to say that Sarawak in the near future will host world conferences such as the International World Water Congress and Exhibition in 2028.

Meanwhile, in his return speech, the Marshal thanked the Premier for accepting his invitation to speak at the forum and shared Sarawak’s experiences with green and decarbonisation initiatives.

He noted that other parts of the world, particularly Sarawak, shared Europe’s concern about climate change and should work together to mitigate it.

He also stated that efforts should be made to strengthen cooperation between Poznan and Sarawak with the common goal of ensuring a sustainable earth.

In response to the Premier’s invitation, Marek stated that he would gladly visit Sarawak if the situation permitted.

Later, the two leaders exchanged gifts.

The Premier was accompanied by his wife, Puan Sri Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tun Tuanku Bujang.
