KUCHING, June 17: The Kuching South City Council (MBKS) has officially kicked off two open space upgrading projects at Lorong Bayor Bukit 14 and Lorong F, Taman BDC, aimed at transforming these areas into inclusive, child- and age-friendly community recreational hubs.
The Lorong Bayor Bukit 14 open space upgrade, spanning approximately three acres, commenced on June 11, 2025, and is expected to be completed by Oct 1, 2025, with an estimated cost of RM500,000.
Meanwhile, the Lorong F, Taman BDC open space upgrade, covering two acres, began on June 9, 2025, and is slated for completion by Sept 29, 2025, at an estimated cost of RM470,000.

“Public parks and open spaces play a crucial role in fostering community interaction, healthy lifestyles, and environmental sustainability.
“Through projects like these, the Council is working towards creating inclusive, friendly, and safe neighbourhoods for all generations,” MBKS Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng told reporters during the back-to-back site handover ceremonies here today.
Planned enhancements for the Lorong Bayor Bukit 14 open space include the construction of a new footpath with proper drainage, installation of a children’s playset and fitness equipment, as well as a gazebo, concrete table tennis table, hopscotch game area, solar-powered lighting, and the planting of new trees and shrubs.
Upgrades at the Lorong F, Taman BDC open space include a new entrance pavilion and signage, improved walkways, modern playsets for children, outdoor fitness equipment for seniors, and the planting of new trees and shrubs to enhance the park’s greenery and ambiance.
The mayor noted that different contractors and consultants are being engaged for each site to ensure every park has a unique identity rather than uniformity.
Wee extended his appreciation to the Jabatan Landskap Negara for their collaboration and funding support, and affirmed MBKS’ commitment to continue enhancing community spaces across Kuching South.
“MBKS remains committed to creating a city that prioritises the health, development, and happiness of all age groups by continuously upgrading infrastructure and services to enhance the quality of life for its residents,” he said. — DayakDaily
