Narrow escape for three after Betong landslide pushes vehicle into ravine

BETONG, March 5: A woman and her two children escaped unharmed after their vehicle was hit by a landslide at Jalan Ulu Spak today.

Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (JPBN) secretariat Major Ismail Mahedin in a press statement revealed the incident occurred at 12pm.

According to Ismail, the victim was on her way to send both of her children to school when the landslide occurred.


“All three of them managed to escaped unharmed when the incident occurred, but their vehicle was taken down the ravine by the landslide,” he disclosed.

The victim’s vehicle that was carried by landslide down the ravine was badly damaged.

He added access along Jalan Ulu Spak is currently cut-off and impassable by any vehicle after the landslide.

Ismail also gave a public reminder that there is a risk that the landslide might occur again, and road users are advised to use an alternative road which is connected to Padeh. — DayakDaily
