KUCHING, March 21: The Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB) is working with Tsinghua University in China to research using palm oil biodiesel in Chinese-made vehicle engines.

According to a Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) report, Deputy Prime Minister Dato Sri Fadillah Yusof said it includes laboratory studies and the feasibility of producing palm oil bio jet fuel as sustainable aviation fuel (SAF).

The Plantation and Commodities Minister said MPOB is also collaborating with six local universities in the trial study of diesel engines using the B30 biodiesel blend.

He said this in response to a question from Tanjung Piai MP Dato Sri Dr Wee Jeck Seng in Parliament, Kuala Lumpur today.

Fadillah, who is also Petra Jaya MP, added that the use of palm oil biodiesel is a strategic move by the government to encourage the use of palm oil in the country and aims to strengthen and stabilise the price of palm oil in the long term.

“The use of palm oil biodiesel is also able to contribute to sustainability and improve the image of the country’s palm industry in implementing environmentally friendly practices in addition to reducing the use of fossil-based fuels and greenhouse gas emissions,” he said. — DayakDaily
