KUCHING, April 28: Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) has drawn up several zones and wards for areas under its jurisdiction to ensure that councillors will be able to effectively represent its residents for the 2023 to 2025 term.

Its chairman Tan Kai said for the two-year term, there would be 10 zones and 14 wards for their councillors to take care of.

ā€œMe and my deputy will take care of all the zones and wards,ā€ he reporters after their full council meeting at MPP headquarters today.

Tan Kai said councillors appointed by the Sarawak government should be the first responders to problems faced by residents in their assigned wards and zones.

ā€œI want them to be known to residents in areas under MPP’s jurisdiction, and these councillors must know to take care of them.

He said councillors in each zone could use the Resident Councillors System (RCS) to obtain information and to remain informed about issues ocurring in their ward and within other areas under MPP’s jurisdiction.

ā€œOur councillors should be the eyes and the ears of the government and they should be able to resolve matters and bring them to the council or the attention of the respective authority for further action,ā€ he said.

Also present at the press conference were MPP deputy chairman Abang Ismawi Abang Ali, and its acting municipal secretary Ita Ling.

MPP is manned by more than 400 staff and 31 councillors that covers an area of 984.338 square kilometres. ā€” DayakDaily
