KUCHING, Sept 2: The Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) is offering free dog licence registration, anti-rabies vaccination and microchipping on Sept 5 as part of efforts to curb the risk of rabies in the community.
MPP said the programme will be held at the Barei/Persatuan Biperoh Kuching Hall, Lorong 18 Gerung, Jalan Puncak Borneo, from 9am to 3pm.
The initiative provides dog owners with an opportunity to ensure their pets are properly licensed, vaccinated and microchipped.
Priority will be given to pet owners in the Padawan area, with owners advised to bring their dogs’ vaccination cards, if available.
For the anti-rabies vaccination, only healthy dogs aged above three months that are neither pregnant nor lactating will be eligible.
Following vaccination, owners are required to keep their dogs quarantined within their house compounds for 28 days to allow immunity against rabies to develop.
MPP also reminded pet owners that those who fail to obtain the required licence and vaccination may be subject to compound action.
“Take this opportunity to protect your pets and the community from the risk of rabies,” it said in a statement shared on its social media today.
The programme is part of MPP’s ongoing efforts to promote responsible pet ownership and strengthen rabies prevention and control in the community. — DayakDaily
