SIBU, Oct 3: The Ministry of Education (MoE) will be focusing on restoring dilapidated schools in Sarawak next year.

According to Deputy Education Minister Lim Hui Ying, a number of dilapidated schools in the State have been rated 7.

“Schools with a rate of 7 must be demolished and rebuilt. Therefore, this is one of Prime Minister Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim and MoE’s priorities next year.

“We are also addressing the issue of school dropouts in rural areas (as the main focus). We will study how to tackle this situation,” she said after visiting SMK St Elizabeth here today.

In January this year, Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek said that MoE had identified 455 dilapidated schools, which are rated six, and 113 dilapidated schools rated seven in Sarawak.
