KUCHING, Oct 31: Miri City Council (MCC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (Unicef) Malaysia to implement the Child Friendly Cities Initiative (CFCI).

The MoU was signed by MCC mayor Adam Yii Siew Sang and Edgar Donoso, who represented Unicef Malaysia, in a simple ceremony held at The Barrel Chamber in MCC headquarters today.

According to Yii, through the initiatives, Miri will become a safer place for children, with access to essential social, educational, and skills development services, as well as ensuring a clean, unpolluted, and safe environment, and providing equal living experiences regardless of their ethnic origin, religion, income, gender, or ability.

“The council would look into the possibility of blending it into its current and other programmes to facilitate and streamline the overall implementation of CFCI,” he said in a statement today.

Yii added that CFCI is relevant to the MCC’s current strategy plan being laid down for the next five years.

“CFCI will also complement our current initiatives being carried out to realize our vision of transforming Miri City into a vibrant, green, and liveable resort smart city,” he said. — DayakDaily
