KUCHING, Oct 25: The Sarawak government, through the Ministry of Utility and Telecommunication (MUT) Sarawak, will continue its efforts to meet the utility and communication needs of rural residents.

MUT Sarawak Minister Datuk Julaihi Narawi said the State government was committed to bridging the gap in communication and utilities between urban and rural areas, Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) reported.

According to him, projects involving the supply of electricity, water, and telecommunications are still ongoing and are now just waiting for time to be completed.

“Therefore, we ask the residents in the interior to be patient and give the implementing agencies and related officials some time for them to carry out their duties smoothly and according to the set schedule.

“This effort is a continuous effort carried out by the Sarawak government together with the federal government,” he told reporters during an official working visit to Rumah Richard Umkar, Sungai Serupai Tengah in Tatau today.

Julaihi said the State government wanted the people in rural areas to be actively involved in development like those in urban areas.

“This is what we are emphasising in the Post-Covid-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030), which is inclusion,” he added.

It is understood, according to Ukas, that the purpose of the visit is to monitor the implementation of projects that have been completed and to gather information about other issues residents face.

The visit was also attended by MUT deputy permanent secretary Syed Mohamad Fauzi; Tatau District Office representative Winnie Dian; Balingian Sub-District Office representative Dominic Ahjun; Sarawak Energy Berhad senior manager from Sarawak Alternative Rural Electrification (SARES), Barry Law; and longhouse chief Richard Umkar. — DayakDaily
