SERIAN, July 28: Serian, Tebedu and Gedong will enjoy a more reliable electricity supply once the Serian 275/132/33kV Substation is completed.
Minister of Utility and Telecommunications Dato Sri Julaihi Narawi said the project, costing RM223.5 million, is scheduled for completion in June 2028.
He added that the project, which commenced on Dec 1, 2025, is 12 per cent complete and remains on track for its scheduled completion.
“This new substation will strengthen the electricity supply in the division, while its additional capacity will support development under the Serian Master Plan, as well as upcoming State and federal projects in the area,” Julaihi told reporters during a site visit today.
He added that the substation will help prepare the division’s electricity network to support economic, infrastructure and tourism development, and that once completed, it will also enable electricity supply to be extended to the Samarahan and Simunjan areas.
The Sebuyau assemblyman also told reporters that substations in Tebedu and Mongkos, together with the Serian substation, represent a combined investment of RM260 million.
“These projects are expected to improve power quality while reducing the risk of capacity constraints and low-voltage issues,” he said.
Among those present were Deputy Minister of Utility (Sarawak Energy and PETROS) Datuk Ibrahim Baki; Deputy Minister of Utility and Telecommunications (Telecommunication) Datuk Liwan Lagang; Deputy Minister of Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development Datuk Martin Ben; Serian MP Dato Sri Richard Riot Jaem; and Bukit Semuja assemblyman John Ilus. — DayakDaily
