KUCHING, May 23: The Mid-Rajang Regional Development Agency (MiRRDA) is actively implementing sustainable development projects through small-scale palm oil cultivation, aimed at increasing household income in the Central Sarawak region.

According to the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS), MiRRDA chairman, Dato Sri Aaron Ago Dagang, said that the project offers each household the opportunity to manage a small palm oil plantation, with an initial proposed land size of five hectares.

However, he said that MiRRDA is considering not limiting the land size for each participant, based on feedback and discussions with the Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

“Therefore, we hope that through this scheme or palm oil scheme assistance, we can increase each household’s income. Our target is no less than RM6,000 to RM8,000 per household,” he said.

He said this while leading a MiRRDA delegation in a courtesy visit to the Premier of Sarawak at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUS) today.

The national unity minister also expects the project to commence as early as next year, with planning and vision currently being finalised.

He added that the Premier has also expressed interest in the project and urged for all planning to be completed quickly so that implementation can begin promptly.

In addition, Aaron stated that MiRRDA is also focusing on infrastructure development, especially road connectivity, with RM1.1 billion allocated to construct new roads linking native customary rights (NCR) land areas that were previously neglected.

“Out of the RM1.5 billion allocation we have, RM1.1 billion is designated for road construction and expansion.

“These roads are mostly new routes that connect NCR land areas that were previously left behind when their residents were relocated under the resettlement scheme (under the) Rajang Area Security Command (RASCOM) Development Agency,” he said.

Minister in the Premier’s Department of Sarawak, Dato Sri John Sikie Tayai; Tamin assemblyman, Christopher Gira; Ngemah assemblyman, Anyi Jana; and Machan assemblyman, Allan Siden Grimong, were also present during the courtesy call. — DayakDaily
