KUCHING, May 23: Minister for Transport and Senadin assemblyman Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin has urged Affin Bank to consider opening a new branch in Permyjaya to cater to the area’s fast-growing population and expanding business community.
He made the proposal during a courtesy call by Affin Bank’s Sarawak Banking director Victor Liew Wui Tak at his office in the Sarawak Legislative Assembly Complex today.
According to a statement today, the suggestion was met with a positive response, with Liew expressing support and committing to bring the proposal to Affin Bank’s management for consideration under the bank’s 2026 branch expansion plans.
Lee highlighted that the rapidly developing Permyjaya and surrounding areas, which are home to approximately 150,000 residents, are currently served by only one bank.
He added that the area also boasts over a thousand commercial premises, including SMEs, supermarkets, a private hospital, educational institutions, and schools.
“Given the size and pace of development in Permyjaya and its vicinity, there is a clear and pressing need for more banking facilities.
“There have been numerous requests from residents and business owners for an additional bank to set up operations here,” he added.
Lee also proposed that Affin Bank consider establishing a service counter in Senadin to assist eligible residents in applying for the Affin Bank Kenyalang Visa Debit Card. This card, tailored specifically for Sarawakians, is available to those whose MyKad carries the “K” code, requires no minimum deposit, and is exempt from annual fees for life.
“This initiative aligns with our wider commitment to improving financial access and inclusion for all Sarawakians,” he said. — DayakDaily
