KUCHING, Sept 6: Sarawak may see an upward trend of strata-titled properties not just in Kuching, but also in Miri, Bintulu and Sibu.

A strata title is a land title issued for multi-level apartment blocks and horizontal subdivisions with shared areas.

Deputy Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government Michael Tiang Ming Tee said the relevant provisions of the Strata Management Ordinance 2019, Strata (Management and Maintenance) Regulations 2022 and the Strata (Subsidiary Titles) Ordinance 2019 which came into effect earlier this year, are meant to add value to and improve standards and expectations of strata living.

“Properly implemented, rules, processes and procedures are foundational towards encouraging potential homeowners to actively consider strata-titled properties.

“Although Sarawakians generally tend to prefer landed properties, with clear regulations for strata management and maintenance in place, we should expect to see an upward trend of strata-titled properties in Sarawak, not just in Kuching but also in Miri, Bintulu and Sibu,” he said when officiating the closing ceremony of ‘Your Essential Guide to Strata Management and Maintenance in Sarawak’ held at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) here today.

He further noted that the demand for such a seminar reflects its urgency and importance to provide clarification on various issues on the strata legislation and that the material presented in the seminar aims to assist in the management and maintenance of strata-titled properties.

The series of seminars was jointly-organised by Sarawak Housing and Real Estate Developers Association (Sheda), the Ministry of Public Health, Housing and Local Government (MPHLG), and Sarawak Land and Survey Department (JTS).

Over 600 people comprising property developers, property managers, lawyers, bankers, surveyors, architects, real estate agents and others, have registered to participate in the series of seminars that first kicked off in Miri on Aug 22. To date, the organisers have a waiting list of an extra 150 participants.

An extra seminar on ‘Your Essential Guide to Strata Management and Maintenance in Sarawak’ to be held at Sri Bunga Rampai Banquet Hall, Kuching this Sept 12 and 13.

At the event, Tiang also announced that due to popular demand, the seminar will be extended for one more session to accommodate the overwhelmingly positive response by members of the property industry and related professional groups.

The final seminar will be held at Sri Bunga Rampai Banquet Hall, Kuching on Sept 12 and 13.
