Sibu marine police foil illegal activities involving diesel and timber logs

SIBU, Sept 6: The marine police here had two successful operations on illegal activities involving diesel and logs yesterday.

In the first case, a team of marine police conducting Ops Kontraban at 2.30am at Pulau Kerto, Batang Rajang detained a cargo vessel skipper who had in his possession 5,000 litres of diesel worth RM80,000.

Sibu district police chief, ACP Zulkipli Suhaili said the suspect failed to provide documentary proof from the authority on the ownership of the diesel.


“The arrest of the suspect and seizure of the vessel were made under the Supply and Control Act 1961,” he said.

He added that the case has been referred to the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) Sibu Division for investigation and further action.

In the second case, he said another marine police team seized 250 illegal logs which were floating near Pulau Keladi in Batang Rajang at 3.20pm.

The logs worth RM200,000 were later handed over to Sarawak Forest Department for further action. — DayakDaily
