KUCHING, April 28: The Miri City Council (MCC) is collaborating with other enforcement agencies to prosecute heavy trucks travelling along residential roads without a valid permit, in response to numerous complaints from local residents about trucks speeding, reckless driving, damaging estate roads, and creating a dusty environment in the area.

According to a statement issued today by the MCC, in addition to taking various actions in accordance with the Council’s By-Laws and regulations, the MCC is holding a meeting today with other enforcement agencies, including the Miri Police Department, Miri Road Transport Department, Miri branch Commercial Vehicles Licensing Board (LPKP), and Miri branch Natural Resource Environment Board (NREB).

“The meeting’s purpose is to reach a consensus, after which other government enforcement agencies will assist the Council on this matter by taking their respective actions under other legal provisions under their purview,” said the MCC.

MCC is reminding all truck drivers to take this matter seriously and to immediately cease such practices in order to avoid being subjected to concerted enforcement actions by all enforcement agencies.

“Should they have justification and are required to travel in such areas in accordance with proper standard operating procedures (SOPs), they should apply to the authorities concerned for the necessary permit,” explained the MCC. — DayakDaily
