KUCHING, April 28: A self-employed man pleaded not guilty to a charge of causing grievous hurt to a man who was helping a car accident victim at Jalan Astana.

Arman Salleh, 42, pleaded not guilty to the charge framed under Section 326 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum of 20 years’ imprisonment and a fine or whipping, upon conviction.

Sessions Court Judge Maris Agan fixed May 30 for case management and released the accused on RM4,000 cash bail and with one local surety.

He was found voluntarily causing grievous hurt to a 57-year-old by using a wooden stick which could cause death to others, at Jalan Astana, at about 7.50am on April 20.

According to an earlier report, there was a car accident where a motorcycle collided with a lorry and the victim of this case tried to offer emergency help to the motorcyclist.

When the accused arrived at the scene, the accused mistook the victim as the lorry driver and started to hit the victim using a wooden stick.
