KUCHING, July 12:  An odd job worker claims trial for causing grievous hurt on another person using parang.

The accused, 25, from RPR Batu Kawa, was charged for voluntarily causing grievous hurt to another person by using parang and also in possession of an offensive weapon at a housing area at Taman Desa Wira without lawful authority at about 4 pm on July 2, 2019.

He was unrepresented yesterday and pleaded guilty before Sessions Court Judge Dayang Ellyn Narisa Abang Ahmad.

Dayang Ellyn, however, insisted that the prosecution clarified the extend of grievous hurt purportedly sustained by the complainant.

She fixed the case for further mention and judgment today.

Today, however, the accused changed his plea and was represented by Counsel Teresa Udam, resulting in the case to be mentioned on July 26.

Manju was charged under Section 326 of the Penal Code which carries a maximum imprisonment term of 20 years and a fine or whipping, if convicted.

He was also charged under sub-section 6(1) of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act 1958, which carries an imprisonment term of not less than five years and not more than ten years and whipping, if convicted.
